# How can we best select which pupils receive NELI?

LanguageScreen is the very best way that schools can select pupils for the NELI programme. It is recommended that all schools taking part in the NELI intervention assess all children aged 4-5 years with LanguageScreen before starting the programme and again after the programme has been completed.

LanguageScreen gives an accurate assessment of children's oral language skills and is the best way of identifying the children who are most likely to benefit from the NELI programme.

Reassessing all children in the class with LanguageScreen after the NELI programme has been completed gives teachers a way of monitoring the extent to which the NELI programme has been successful in "closing the language gap" between the children who received the NELI programme and their peers with better language skills.
